Information
A small and idyllic paradise, just 35 km from Maun, teeming with birdlife, with hippos, elephants, and other wildlife regularly passing by. The stone house is covered with sustainable Cape reed and boasts a large veranda overlooking Boteti Lagoon – normally with year-round water and a regular home to a pod of hippos numbering over 20.
The large living room features beautiful oak flooring and extends into the cozy kitchen/diner with an outdoor storage room. Large French doors open onto the veranda and garden. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a shower/bath, which opens onto a small walled garden with an outdoor shower. On the opposite side is a second bedroom and a bathroom with a shower/bath. The cozy loft can be used as a home office, hobby room, or extra sleeping space. From the house, steps lead down to the recently renovated swimming pool, nestled amidst lush greenery and characterized by two large jackalberry trees. There is a large fire/barbecue area with benches around it and a large wooden deck overlooking the river where you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Next to the deck is the river tent, built of wood and canvas with a thatched roof. It has two levels and includes a toilet, bath, and sink. There is also an outdoor shower behind the tent.
Other buildings on the site include a barn with adjoining carport, a billing room (aka workshop) and a pump house.
The total built area is 371 m². The garden features several large trees such as jackalberries, birdplums, camelthorns, and a young baobab, as well as various bougainvilleas and other plants, which provide flowers most of the year. Electricity and hot water are provided by solar power, and there is a well from which water is pumped to a raised tank, from which it flows by gravity to the house, the river tent, and the underground irrigation system. Irrigation is also possible with water pumped from the river. The land measures 2 m², is fenced, and has a camera and alarm system.
NB: In Botswana, when purchasing real estate located on tribal land, approval from the Land Board is required. This can take several months. A transfer duty is also levied—currently 15% of the assessed value, payable by the buyer to BURS (the Botswana Tax Authority).
